Scorps & Spokeshaves
Imparting shape and function to timber with scorps and spokeshaves is one of the purest forms of the woodworker's craft. Working towards the bases of concave curves and away from the apexes of convex ones, then gingerly sneaking in the final cut at the grain transition to complete the profile.
You need relaxed concentration and a strong awareness of the material to use these tools effectively, sometimes referred to as being 'in the zone', but the rewards of finding that, are nothing short of remarkable and transfer well to all other aspects of woodworking.
