Rosewood (Sonokeling)

Our current batch of Rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia) is from India - also known as "sonokeling" rosewood and identical to Indian rosewood.

With deep colouration that has hues of red, brown and purple more or less striped, it is used for turning, and remains popular among luthiers especially for acoustic guitars. Narrow, interlocked grain and density can prove diffcult to work, but it finishes really well and darkens with age to a deep brown.

Allergies: Severe reactions somewhat uncommon - it has been reported as a sensitizer.
