Phillips Screwdrivers

The Phillips or crosshead screw is named after Henry Phillips, who established the Phillips Screw Company in 1934 after purchasing the design from engineer John Thompson. Its self-centring action was originally developed to speed production on assembly lines, and General Motors' adoption of the head in 1936 helped it become one of the most widely used screw types in the world.

Our Phillips range is made up entirely of Narex screwdrivers. Each has a strong, beautifully ground tip finished in a black high friction coating, which also acts as a substrate for the chrome plating on the rest of the tool. Handles are beech, stained black and triangular in section for a comfortable grip and efficient transfer of torque, with a tang that passes right through so the driver can be lightly struck with a mallet if extra persuasion is needed.
