Based on historical examples from the 18th / 19th century, Pleskov side axes have an assymetric head and handle and a single bevel, they excel at creating flat surfaces.
For smaller pieces they are usually used with the wood resting on a stump and a series of chops made working up the log to break up the waste before slicing down to separate it. They can also be used on larger pieces in the same manner as a broad axe for smoothing and evening up.
All Petrograd axe handles are secured with wooden wedges only, if the eye of the head has been formed correctly metal wedges are not necessary.
The 'left' is left bevelled for use in the left hand.
Supplied with a handmade welted and rivetted leather axe mask.
