Canadian sugar maple is a lovely wood to work, hard and even, yet capable of holding crisp detail. Colours range from nearly white, to an off-white cream color, occasionally with patches of figure including birdseye, fiddleback, quilted, etc.
It can be worked by hand, despite its higher density, which is preferable as it has a tendancy to burn when machined at high-speed. It responds well to turning, glue and finishing though be aware that blotches may occur if stained.
