Made to be struck, the classic Sheffield 'double hooped ash' handle has a thick steel ferrule and collar and is traditionally fitted to firmer chisels and gouges.
The shapely form works beautifully with an overhand grip, the little finger nestles into the 'waist' of the handle, so you can hold the chisel loosely with the other fingers and thereby minimise vibration travelling up your arm when you're giving it 'the beans' - gracefully simple Victorian ergonomics.
Approx length 152mm / 6"
