A traditional ebony flat-profile shoulder plane has its blade flush to the edges of the plane, so you can trim right up to the edge of your workpiece and into the corners of tenon shoulders and rebates.
The cut depth is easily adjusted by setting the wedge and tang then tapping the rear of the plane with a small mallet.
