African Padauk (Pterocarpus soyauxii), also known as Barwood and Camwood, it is a very striking rich red/orange and sometimes referred to as vermillion, that darkens to a deep red brown.
It has a coarse texture with a medium to high lustre. Paired with natural resonant properties it's a popular choice for high-end musical instruments, as well as general turning and fine cabinetry work.
Allergies: Severe reactions are quite uncommon, but it has been reported as a sensitizer.
