Liogier handlemakers rasps have a similar profile to a half round but flattened towards the tip, giving a wider range of profiles. Handle makers rasps are stitched on the curved face only and the tool is curved for a more efficient stroke.
You can use a half round rasp for making saw handles or plane handles and it is a more versatile tool for other work, but your arm has to move twice as far and you run the risk of scratching the opposite side of closed handles with the flat side of the tool.
We took Noel's recommendation for which grains to choose, the more aggressive No.9 does the majority of the shaping, the ultra fine No.15 removes all the marks, fine tunes the shape, and leaves a surface that requires very little sanding.
