Naniwa Advance range of Japanese super stones were developed for ultimate polishing performance on tempered high carbon steel - straight razors, western edge tools etc.
They have that lovely bite and feedback of a traditional Japanese waterstone but are harder and more wear resistant. In use they require less pressure and produce a very even and consistent scratch pattern so they feel extremely fast, hold their flatness beautifully, and leave a superb polished finish.
The 400/1000 covers routine maintenance, periodically removing wear or damage and re-establishing surfaces of woodworking tools ready for polishing. This is also a great stone for day to day sharpening of kitchen knives.
