York gum (eucalyptus loxophleba) is endemic throughout Western Australia and produces these lovely round burrs of very solid timber which yield a lot of usable heartwood when cut into blocks.
The figure is exquisite, highly concentrated swirls and ripples of red and gold with small clusters of very tiny knots. This makes york gum relatively even and predictable to work with.
