A masterpiece of British design from the 1920's, Frank Turton's kitchen scissors are one of the most shapely, elegant, perfectly formed functional objects you will ever hold in your hands. Beautifully finished and presented, they have been described as the only scissors you could give as a wedding present.
Turton kitchen scissors have thick, strong, lightly serrated blades to provide an extra bit of purchase on slippery ingredients like chicken or fish. As well as providing extra mechanical advantage for the blades as a class 1 lever, the arched shanks have teeth forged into the inside for cracking nuts as a class 2 lever, a spur on the outside works with the shapely ambidextrous bows to form a bottle opener.
Frank Turton was one of Ernest Wright's competitors, but the mutual respect and friendship between the two makers was so strong that when Turton's ceased trading in the 1980's, production of their best selling kitchen scissors was transferred to Ernest Wright. Another inheritance from Turton's was Scissor Puttertogetherer Mr Eric Stones, who is still with the company and may very well have conducted the marriage of the blades and setting of your new scissors.
