The Gyokucho Fugaku range of folding Japanese saws provide an elegant new choice for woodworkers weighing up the efficiency and accuracy of Japanese saws with the solidity and feel of a western backsaw.
The Fugaku dozuki is a precision pull saw for cross, rip and angle cuts. Used for fine delicate joinery in timber less than 12mm thick , making drawers for example, the universal tooth pattern produces an exceptionally smooth cut that is easy to control.
The handles of the Fugaku range are beautifully crafted from selected quartersawn beech and finished with a satin Japanese lacquer. The saw locks into the extended position with a sprung lever, much like a lock knife, so there is no risk of the saw folding up in use.
The spine is slightly heavier than the ones fitted to standard Gyokucho saws, which along with the weight of the folding mechanism and the solid beech handle gives the saw a sturdy but balanced feel.
We recommend retaining the tooth protection strip supplied with the saw as this makes the blade easier to handle when folding the saw or replacing the blade.
