A remarkably efficient saw for gardening and horticulture, the Gyokucho Megumi Usaba folding pruning saw was designed in conjunction with the apple farmers of Japan to prune the thin branches of fruit trees cleanly in a single pull stroke.

The blades on these saws are extremely thin and very sharp (replacement blades are available when you eventually need them). The blade is nickel plated to surpress corrosion and provide a silky smooth, almost frictionless cut. With it being only 0.6mm thick, care should be taken not to use too much presssure when using.

The adjustable screw changes the angle of the straight blade, effectively making the stroke more or less aggressive.  Although the blade doesn't lock in position the tension of the folding mechanism can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the last screw on the handle that forms the hinge point.

The Magnolia wood handle on Megumi Usuba Folding saw fits comfortably in your hand when working with it over a long time. The unfinished surface is kind to the skin and cleans up easily with sand paper, or if you prefer you can add oil or varnish. The fruit farmers in Japan often carve or personalise the handles of their saws.

As with all blades used for pruning, care should be taken to clean and dry after use, plus we would recommend running a spot of oil over the blade prior to storage.
