A double compassed hollowing plane, with a sole that is convex both in its length and width and a curved cutting edge. Used for creating dished surfaces - the underside of drawer pulls or the edges of a chopping board for example.
You wouldn't approach the whole job of forming a dished seat for a chair or bench with this tool, but it might come in handy for finalising the shaped surface. As with other fixed sole compass planes it can be used on surfaces up to and including its own curvature.
- Body length: 122mm
- Body width: 36mm
- Blade width: 24mm
- Edge Width: 24mm
This is an excellent series of videos by Sumokun that explains the process of setting up a Kanna in English (watch the first video, then the third, then the second).
