The Mujingfang Taiwanese Pattern Jack/Smoothing Plane is a wonderful tool for fine tuning surfaces and leaving a glass smooth finish. The 48mm blade is made from fine grained tungsten molybdenum high speed steel, cryogenically hardened to RC64.
Every Mujingfang plane is crafted by hand from a single piece of carefully selected air dried timber. The surfaces are shaped by hand and finished with scrapers to expose the natural sheen of the wood. Taiwanese planes are similar in design and function to Japanese kanna, they have a separate cap iron that is sprung against a cross pin and can be used on either the push or pull stroke.
At 245mm this is the longest of the curved profile range, giving the sole length needed to true longer, flowing curves evenly rather than following every dip and bump.
