Bastard Cut Flat

150mm from shoulder to tip, 15.5mm wide, 4.0mm thick, parallel sided over the full length, double cut faces, one safe edge and one single cut edge.

Bastard Cut Half Round

150mm from shoulder to tip, 15.5mm wide, 4.0mm thick, parallel sided over two thirds of the length and tapered towards the tip with double cut faces and toothed edges. A halfround file is one of the most useful tools you will ever own, whether for flat work, smoothing gentle concave or convex curves, or sneaking in to relieve an acute corner.

Bastard Cut Round

This is a true rat tail file, straight for ⅓ of the toothed surface at 6mm diameter, and then gently tapered for the remaining two thirds, down to about 4mm diameter at the tip.

Second Cut Flat

150mm from shoulder to tip, 15.5mm wide, 4.0mm thick, parallel sided over the full length, double cut faces, one safe edge and one single cut edge.

Second Cut Half Round

The file has a taper on the final third of its length, providing handle clearance and enabling part of its edge to be used up against long internal corners.

Second Cut Round

A true rat tail file, straight for ⅓ of the toothed surface at 6mm diameter, and then gently tapered for the remaining two thirds, down to about 4mm diameter at the tip. Second cut toothing provides rapid material removal with care, a surface that requires little or no further finishing.

Smooth Cut Flat

150mm from shoulder to tip, 15.7mm wide, 4.0mm thick, with parallel sides, one safe edge and one single cut edge.

Smooth Cut Half Round

150mm from shoulder to tip, 15.5mm wide, 4.0mm thick, parallel sided over two thirds of the length and tapered towards the tip.

Smooth Cut Round

A true rat tail file, straight for ⅓ of the toothed surface at 6mm diameter, and then gently tapered for the remaining two thirds, down to about 4mm diameter at the tip.

For best results, hold the file at both ends and at a slight angle to the work. Advance the file forward and across, with even pressure to bring the maximum number of teeth into contact with the work. Avoid rocking and lift off on the return stroke to avoid dulling the cutting ridges.

To clean your files gently brush out any accumulated debris with a soft wire brush or file card, always going along the ridges rather than across them. To minimise the chances of the file clogging when working with soft metals, apply chalk liberally to the surfaces before you begin.
