These Japanese dovetail chisels are made for us by Fujikawa in Miki City, Japan. Umeki oire nomi (dovetail chisels) are made to the same specification as the rest of the Fujikawa professional range with hon akagashi (premium Japanese red oak) handles, blued hoops and hand forged blades.
Usually described as Japanese dovetail chisels, Umeki Oire have slender triangular blades with about half the side height of traditional oire nomi. Light, thin and accurate they are very well suited to furniture making. The sides are not quite as thin as we are used to on western chisels, but are ground as thin as the laminated steel construction will allow.
Please note these are very much 'cutting only' tools and should in no circumstances be used to pry the waste or remove slices thicker than half a mm or so.
