Compact Saws

Compact saws cover the shorter end of the Gyokucho range: ryoba, kataba and dozuki saws built to do full sized work in a size that fits a toolbox, site bag or travel kit. The range here spans wooden handled precision saws, toolbox friendly TPE handled saws, and a folding all rounder.

The TRONC 180 series is aimed at professional craftspeople making small, high quality work such as jewellery boxes, clocks, musical instruments and furniture maquettes. Handles are turned from hard maple and cherry, finished with a bronzed retaining screw and a hole for hanging. They improve with age and the occasional drop of oil or finishing wax. Replacement blades are available for each saw in the TRONC range.

The 180 Series saws bring the same accuracy to a lighter, toolbox friendly format with TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) handles, hard and resilient yet soft to the touch. They are also a good choice for younger woodworkers, being efficient, easy to control and precise.

For a general purpose option, the Gyokucho CAST 200 folding saw opens one handed and locks securely in place, with fine Komame double edge crosscut teeth suited to craft work and general woodworking. Replacement blades are available in fine, medium and large tooth options, so the same handle can be adapted to the task at hand.

At the other end of the range sits the Hishika Traditional Mini Wooden Handle Saw Set. Unlike the replaceable blade saws above, these blades are fixed, but with care they are built to perform well for decades. The set of six covers much the same range of joinery and craft tasks as the sets above, just scaled down for small precision work.

With appropriate care, the nickel plated blades in the replaceable blade compact range last for many years, it is not uncommon for us to supply first replacement blades for saws between 7 and 15 years old.
