This Mujingfang Taiwanese Spokeshave is a smaller-sized version of the delightfully fingertippy and precise moustache shaped Taiwanese pattern spokeshave from Mujingfang. These little shaves always remind me of furniture designer maker David Savage, who was a great advocate of them.
Handmade from Shungee Rosewood to a traditional Taiwanese design, each body is individually numbered and paired with a superb hand forged carbon steel blade.
The body is 150mm long with a 42mm cutting edge blade and a very tight mouth. Although the 11mm of sole ahead of the blade is flat, the underside of the blade forms an angle with it, so the tool is easy to master while still able to get into fairly tight curves. Its smaller size compared to the the medium spokeshave suits tighter curves and more delicate work.
