The Mujingfang Taiwanese Style Ebony Curved Profile Plane, like every Mujingfang plane, is crafted by hand from a single piece of carefully selected air dried timber. The surfaces are shaped by hand and finished with scrapers to expose the natural sheen of the wood. This 220mm curved profile plane has a body of African Jackalberry (Diospyros mespiliformis), a beautifully figured species of ebony.
Taiwanese planes are similar in design and function to Japanese kanna, they have a separate cap iron that is sprung against a cross pin and can be used on either the push or pull stroke. The extra length of this plane over the 180mm size gives more control across larger curved surfaces and bigger coves.
