Scrub planes are great fun to use, they work across the grain taking fat narrow shavings, so you can hog away material fast, bringing boards to roughly to truth and dimension. The heavily cambered cutting edge works like a gouge, slicing the fibres rather than tearing and leaving an evenly scalloped surface. For non-show surfaces like the underside of a char seat it is perfectly acceptable to leave the surface straight from the scrub plane.

Made of selected beech with a durable hornbeam sole, the Pinie Classic scrub plane has a professional quality 1⅜" uncut parallel iron bevelled at 28° - hone at 35° for maximum edge retention.  Since all of the scrub plane's work will usually end up on the floor, including the surface it leaves behind,  the cutting irons are traditionally not flattened - just a quick tickle on the bevel, wax the sole and crack on.
