Japanese Plane Irons
Japanese plane irons made from Aogami laminated steel, known as blue paper steel, are prized by woodworkers for exceptional cutting performance and edge retention.
These Tsunesaburo irons bring that renowned Japanese steel to a western metal-bodied handplane, made and heat treated so they drop straight in without needing any modification to the plane. Honing angles stay the same as you'd use for carbon steel irons, at 25 or 30 degrees, and the laminated construction makes them a pleasure to hone freehand.
- Aogami (blue paper steel) laminated construction for superior edge retention
- Designed as a drop-in replacement, no plane modification required
- Standard 25/30 degree honing angles, same as carbon steel irons
- Freehand honing recommended; keep off diamond stones, as the soft iron backing can damage the diamond surface
