Our current batch of Rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia) is from India - also known as "sonokeling" rosewood and identical to Indian rosewood.
These B Grade blanks may be slightly misshapen, off-square, or contain cosmetic imperfections.
With deep colouration that has hues of red, brown and purple more or less striped, it is used for turning, and remains popular among luthiers especially for acoustic guitars. Narrow, interlocked grain and density can prove difficult to work, but it finishes really well and darkens with age to a deep brown.
