Kataba

Where the Dozuki prioritises precision, the Kataba prioritises freedom. Without a back spine, there is no limit to how deep this saw can cut, making it the go-to Japanese saw for thicker stock, beams, panels and any workpiece where a back saw simply cannot reach.

The Kataba carries a single-edged blade, typically with either rip or crosscut teeth depending on the model. This focus on one tooth geometry means the blade can be optimised for its intended task, delivering clean, efficient cuts through demanding material.

Like all Japanese saws, the Kataba cuts on the pull stroke - the blade stays under tension, reducing flex and keeping the cut tracking true even through deep sections of hardwood or timber framing.

Kataba is a practical, capable saw that earns its place alongside any Dozuki or Ryoba in a well-equipped woodworker's workshop.
